WEEK 4 IN THE MTC
Bienvenidos to my week 4 email!
I leave for the field in a little under 2 weeks, and I am stoked. I can't wait to go out and serve everyday. I know it'll be hard, but I'm excited to tackle this challenge and have the best 2 years of life. This week, my comp and I had a few experiences with talking to random hispanic people from Mexico in our own breakout rooms on zoom, and it was really fun. I can understand what my teachers are saying most of the time because they talk slowly, but I barely understood these people that Elder Peterson and I were teaching. Even though it was hard to communicate well with them, I still enjoyed every moment. They were super nice people, and they were really funny. It's the best feeling when I actually have a small conversation with them because I know what they are saying. What time I found out that this lady liked playing basketball so I was like "sweet let's go, I can talk about this." I asked her what her favorite team was and she said the Miami Heat. Being a Mavs fan, I don't like the heat very much haha so I had to tell her "ahh no me gusta el Miami Heat." So it was funny talking to her about that, and we were both laughing so it was a good time. My confidence went up a ton after that but then 5 minutes later it dropped back down when we started talking to another hispanic. That basically sums up my MTC experience, one second I think I'm getting the language down and then all of a sudden, I'm feeling like I have gotten nowhere. I don't think I understood a single word from that person, she was talking way too fast. I know it's gonna take a little bit to get the hang of understanding people, but I know I'll get it down eventually if I continue to do my part and have faith while putting the work in every day. Patience and faith is the key. Overall, I already love hispanic people so much. They are incredibly happy and humble. I know Panama will be a bit different, but I am beyond excited to get to know the people and learn about their culture.
Anyways, I have to go because I'm meeting up with a few of the Elders from my district! Most of them are from Utah which is sick because I get to meet some of them in person! We're playing basketball, so you already know I'm stoked. I'll leave you guys here with my new favorite scripture that I read from personal study.
Alma 29:9 - "I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do anot bglory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy." I am extremely thankful to have the opportunity to be an instrument in the hands of God, and I can’t wait to experience that joy when serving the no doubt amazing people.
Love,
Elder Felt
Here are some pics especially for the ones who just scroll down to the bottom every time. It's okay because I'm guilty of doing that too...
