Serving in Guna Yala has been an experience of pure joy so far. Although It has been quite an adjustment to the work, living conditions, people, culture, and language, I have seen and felt the Lord's love and guidance. Here's a recap of this week! This morning(pday is from 9am-12pm here) for our hours of work, we decided to do some service! We went out to the sapurba(mountain/jungle) with one of our strong, faithful members to clean up his farm and harvest coconuts. Afterwards, we carried 24 coconuts back to the village! It was a great adventure. One day we were walking to our next visit in Ukupa when a member family invited us into their hut to eat iguana soup and iguana eggs. And the iguana skin was very visible in my bowl! After 2 bites, my comp and I said "anmar emeresa"(we're full) and walked out. We learned our lesson the week prior when my comp got sick from finishing a bowl soup of who knows what. But we expressed our gratitude and put on a big smile. They...

Protein Pancakes & Spaghetti Sandwiches

Hey everyone, I hope all is well! What a crazy 2 weeks it has been out here in Guna Yala! They have been filled with some of the most incredible experiences of my entire mission. Before I share some of these experiences, I'll explain the title. Out here, our food is very limited because we basically just bring canned food from the mainland that lasts us a couple months. So it gets pretty repetitive eating spaghetti or rice every day haha. Although this week we got creative and made protein pancakes and spaghetti sandwiches! They were super good. Game changer. These past weeks, we have seen miracles on top of miracles in the 2 branches that we are serving in. And I have had some of the most spiritual experiences this past week where I felt the spirit so strong. Recently, we have been teaching a couple of kids who are ready for baptism but their parents are inactive. We have been visiting the fathers a lot lately to pump them up to baptize their child. There have been a few powerful ...

Las Aguas De Mormón

This week was awesome. It was honestly one of the best weeks I have ever had in my entire life. It wasn't a stroll in the park. The mission never is that way. But we were able to see the Lord's hand every day even during the most challenging days.     Adelfina was baptized! That was a huge miracle. We set her date about 2 weeks ago when I arrived here and she was baptized Saturday by our Branch President in a river! The scenery reminds me of the waters of Mormon where Alma baptized 204 people. What a beast. It was an unforgettable experience. Adelfina is a woman who is about 35 years old with 2 kids. The missionaries had been working with her for about 6 months as she had a struggle with the word of wisdom. By the time I got to Guna Yala she was ready for baptism. She is super elect with a strong testimony of the restoration.      The day of her baptism was super stressful. Her baptism was planned for Saturday morning so we started the 1 hour beach/jungle walk f...

Strengthing Irgandí And Ukupa

It's been a dream this week in Guna Yala. It's unbelievable here. Being here has made me really appreciate God's creation. I'll drop some pics for you guys to see!     The work here is a bit slower. In these 2 villages, it's mandatory to drink "chicha fuerte" which is alcohol that they make here. Basically every few weeks there's a chicha fuerte day and everyone gets drunk including 14 year olds. It's super sad and I'm not looking forward to when that day comes. So pretty much all of the members have problems with the word of wisdom. Despite this struggle we're seeing miracles and I'm excited to help these families and the branches.      In this zone our main focus isn't really to baptize. We are here to strengthen the members and their testimonies(strong enough to obey the word of wisdom), help with the organization of the branch, teach the branch president to be responsible, get positions filled, activate members especially priest...
