Merry Christmas From San Blas

Merry Christmas and Happy New year! I hope you are all enjoying this special and joyous time with your loved ones.

This season is by far my favorite time of year especially as a missionary. It's truly amazing being able to help others feel the Christmas spirit and remind them what it is all about- the birth, life, and atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

About a week and a half ago, I received a call that I was being transferred. After the most incredible 7 months in David my time came to an end. It was hard to say goodbye to my dear friends but I'm looking forward to having new marvelous experiences in a new place. I will now be serving in the San Blas islands learning a new indigenous language called "Dulegaya."

Before coming out, the new San Blas elders and I spent a couple days preparing by buying food, our sandals, and our hammocks! And we also had a multi-zone Christmas Conference! The elders of Guna Yala(San Blas) sang a hymn in dulegaya. I was honored and happy to join in even though I just smiled and moved my mouth haha. Hopefully I'll be able to sing it soon.

Thursday was a long day of travels. I had a 3 hour car ride then had a 4 hour boat ride along the northern coast of Panama towards Columbia to my new area which are two villages on the beach called "Irgandí'' and "Ukupa." It has been a wonderful first few days here. The Guna people don't speak a lick of Spanish so it'll be a good challenge these next couple months. The kids are hilarious and crazy. I wish I could understand them. Everything about the Guna Yala Islands is very different from Panama. The people are different, the culture is different, the language is different, and even the work is different.

Christmas day was a blast! We had a branch Christmas activity. The women cooked so much rice that it filled an entire kitty pool! Legendary haha. We played a bunch of games like musical chairs and tug-a-war. It was a good time seeing everyone happy and laughing.

But this place is absolutely beautiful and I'm pumped to get to work; to serve the guna yala people and teach them the Doctrine of Jesus Christ.

Let me know how you guys are doing!

Love, Elder Felt
